Mark holds a Masters of Science Degree in Taxation, an MBA with high honors, and a BSBA (Accounting), summa cum laude, Beta Gamma Sigma. He is a member of the AICPA and its ABV Credential Committee, the Massachusetts Society of CPAs and holds the ABV (Accredited in Business Valuation) designation from the AICPA. Mark has authored numerous materials in his areas of practice expertise, including taxation, valuation, personal and enterprise goodwill, noncompete agreements, the healthcare regulatory environment and capitated managed care in such national journals as The Journal of Accountancy, Business Valuation Review, Valuation Strategies, Healthcare Financial Management and CPA Expert. Mark is an experienced negotiator, with numerous contract and merger and acquisition transactions to his credit, including such diverse transactions as managed care contracts and a sale of an Internet Technology company to a Fortune 50, with values from under $1.0 million to in excess of $100 million. He has performed more than 150 valuations and testified as an expert witness in divorce, civil litigation and qui tam proceedings.
Don Barbo is the Partner in Charge of Healthcare Valuation Services for Hill Schwartz Spilker Keller, LLC (www.hsskgroup.com). HSSK is a full service business valuation and litigation consulting services firm consisting of approximately 20 professionals with offices in Dallas and Houston.
Don has extensive experience in healthcare valuation engagements involving mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, partnership transactions, leasing arrangements, divorces, and commercial damages. His healthcare valuation experience includes hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging centers, cardiac catheter centers, and physician practices. He has also served as the chief financial officer for a physician practice management company.
Don has published numerous articles and is a frequent speaker regarding the valuation of healthcare businesses. He also serves on the Panel of Experts for the Healthcare Section of the Financial Valuation and Litigation Expert’s Newsletter.
Carol Carden is a Director with ValuePoint Consulting Group and provides business valuation and related consulting services to a wide variety of business organizations, primarily in the healthcare industry. Ms. Carden’s primary areas of expertise are in finance, valuation, managed care and revenue cycle operations for healthcare organizations. She has performed appraisals of businesses and securities for a wide variety of purposes such as mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, management service agreements and other intangible assets.
In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, she has also earned the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Accredited Member (AM) credential from the American Society of Appraisers and the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Since the early seventies, J.D. has limited his practice to health care issues, and has represented thousands of hopitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, HMOs, physicians, medical staffs, and related clients throughout the country. His representaion of these clients has included appearing before administrative appeals boards, such as the Provider Reimbursement Review Board (PRRB) and Fiscal Intermediary Provider Appeals Committees, and in the federal courts. It has also included negotiating and settling disputes relating to Blue Cross and other third-party payor contracts.
J.D. consults with clients in such areas as fraud and abuse, Stark, and federal False Claims Act matters; corporate organizations; acquisitions, mergers, and consolidations; structuring and managed care contracting. J.D. received a B.S. from University of Illinois and a J.D. from the University of Illinois. He currently practices with Greer, Herz & Adams.
