Brian C. Vertz is a partner of Pollock Begg Komar Glasser & Vertz LLC, a Pittsburgh law firm that is widely recognized for family law litigation, settlement, and appeals. His practice embraces complex financial issues in divorce, marital property, child support, custody, and family law tax issues. He has an MBA and credentials as a Certified Valuation Analyst, denoting proficiency in business valuation. Brian maintains an active appellate practice in Pennsylvania and has twice contributed to amicus briefs filed in family law cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Brian was elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 2003, and has served as President and Treasurer of the Pennsylvania chapter. Nationally, he is the Chair of two committees – Chapter Leaders and Practice & Technology – and an active member of many others. He has been trained by the AAML in family law arbitration and mediation.

Brian is the Secretary and a director of the AAML Foundation, a national charitable organization helping distressed children and families. Each year, the AAML Foundations makes grants to local charities in 22 states for the purposes of providing free family law representation and mental health services for indigent clients, funding shelters and legal assistance for victims of domestic violence, supporting educational programs in schools and courts, and spurring innovative approaches to the administration of justice in family law cases impacting children.

Brian is the co-author of Frumkes & Vertz on Divorce Taxation, an annual publication that is known as the leading national treatise on tax issues in divorce. Brian has served for over 20 years as an author and lecturer for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. He was educated at the University of Michigan (BA 1988), the University of Pittsburgh School of Law (JD 1992), and the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business (MBA 1991). He is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
