Alan B. Simons, CPA/ABV/CFF, CMPE leads the national health care valuation practice for CliftonLarsonAllen LLP and the business valuation and litigation support practice for the firm's Philadelphia office.

Alan has prepared hundreds of health care business valuations in conformity with IRS Revenue Ruling 59-60 and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). He has been engaged to determine fair market value for transactions involving the Stark law, the Anti-Kickback statute, Internal Revenue Code section 4958 and transactions among for-profit and nonprofit organizations. In addition, Alan has prepared numerous opinions concerning the reasonableness of clinical, administrative, and physician executive compensation. His experience also includes consulting services related primarily to health care businesses.

Alan is proficient in the valuation (appraisal) of health care businesses (physicians, medical practices, hospitals, senior care facilities, home health, and ancillary facilities such as imaging centers, dialysis centers, surgical centers, and radiation oncology treatment centers). He has represented clients in shareholder disputes, divorce, estate and gift tax valuations, mergers and acquisitions, and damage claims.

Alan is a certified public accountant (CPA), accredited in business valuation (ABV) and certified in financial forensics (CFF) through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and is a certified medical practice executive (CMPE) through the American College of Medical Practice Executives. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Temple University. Alan is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), the American Society of Appraisers (ASA candidate), the Institute of Business Appraisers (IBA), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), and the Forensic and Valuation Services Division of the AICPA. Alan has written a number of articles and has made numerous presentations on business valuation topics. He was formerly an instructor for Continuing Professional Education, Inc. (CPE, Inc.), and taught a full-day course titled “How to Value a Business” to other certified public accountants.
