Jack Montgomery is a litigator and dispute resolution lawyer specializing in complex cases. His practice focuses on energy, insurance, business, construction, and environmental matters. Jack is the Chair of the Firm's Energy and Environmental Practice Group and also heads up the Firm's Wind Energy Coordinating Committee.
Much of Jack's time has been devoted to representing the owners of power plants in disputes with suppliers, manufacturers, and insurers. He has been retained in connection with claims arising out of disputes throughout a wide geographic area, including New England, the Caribbean, and Asia. Cases have been resolved through mediation and litigation in various venues, including London and Houston, as well as Maine and New England.
Jack has also represented clients in toxic tort litigation and in international transportation matters. He served as regional outside litigation counsel for the Canadian National Railway and Marine Atlantic (both Crown Corporations) before they withdrew from the New England market.
Jack is the Chair of the Insurance Section of the Maine Bar Association. He is a frequent lecturer and guest speaker. Jack is a member of the American Arbitration Association's Commercial and Energy Panels. Jack is also active in providing pro bono representation to immigrants seeking political asylum and has handled cases both administratively and in the Immigration Court.
Jack is also a fine arts photographer whose work is part of the permanent collection of the Portland Museum of Art, The Art Gallery of the University of New England and the Holocaust Human Rights Center in Augusta. He is a member of the Boards of the Maine Media Workshops in Camden, Maine, and the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts based in Portland, Maine and Spannocchia (Italy). He is also a member of the Photography Committee of the Portland Museum of Art.
