John is the managing director of the Great Falls Montana office of The Financial Valuation Group (FVG). John became a CPA in 1972 and worked in a public accounting firm as an accounting and audit partner. He joined FVG in 1999 to focus solely on business valuations and forensic financial analysis.

Although John's valuation practice is primarily small businesses, he has valued a wide range of businesses from family limited partnerships with over $100 million of net asset value to Sparky, a mechanical roping steer. He also has an active litigation support practice with a wide variety of case types.

John writes the FVG E-Flash, which is a summary of recent valuation cases. He maintains a free searchable court case library on the FVG website (www.fairmarketvalue.com) and has spoken around the country on a variety of valuation topics.

He was a co-author of Financial Valuation: Applications and Models, published by Wiley and was a technical reviewer for Business Valuation Discounts and Premiums by Shannon Pratt. An article he wrote for The Montana Lawyer, November 1995, “After the Repeal of General Utilities - Business Valuations and Contingent Income Taxes on Appreciated Assets” was cited by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in Irene Eisenberg v. Commissioner 82 AFTR2d Par. 98-5173 No. 97-4331).

John is a member of the Business Valuation Committee of the AICPA.
