James Herr is a Senior Director with Alvarez & Marsal Valuation Services in Houston. Mr. Herr has provided valuation and financial modeling consulting services for more than 15 years. During that time he has performed hundreds of valuation engagements, ranging from business and asset valuations (tangible and intangible) under ASC 350, 360,805, 820, 932; financial instrument valuations under IRC 409A, ASC 718, and 825; tax valuations under IRC 338, 351/367/368 (reorg), 382 (NOLs), 754, 897 (FIRPTA), 1060; valuations for transaction and strategic planning support;valuation and economic damage analyses in litigation; and fairness and solvency opinions.

He has over eight years of specialty focus in the Energy and Mining Sectors. In the Energy Sector he has performed aluations for E&P companies, midstream MLPs, oil field service companies, and refineries (oil and petrochemical plants), and wholesale/retail distributors of petroleum products. In the Mining Sector he has worked on valuations and financial models related to the following commodities: gold, coal (thermal and coking), lithium, platinum, nickel,aluminum/bauxite, trona, copper, iron ore, steel, titanium, potash, uranium, rare earth minerals, and zinc. Mr. Herr has also performed numerous valuations in the technology, telecommunications, and healthcare industries.

Mr. Herr headed an international financial modeling build and review practice at a Big 4 firm, building and delivering as well as reviewing for clients hundreds of Excel-based financial models. He led basic and advanced financial modeling courses out of London.

James holds a BS in Economics and Russian from Brigham Young University, a Master of Economics from the University of California at Berkeley, and a MBA with an emphasis in accounting from the California State University at East Bay. He is a Chartered Financial Analysis charter holder and an Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers. He has also completed all four CPA exams.
